Writing

Writing an issue

The editor, slash commands, images, and how to preview an issue before it sends.

Start with the subject

The subject is the first thing a reader sees. Keep it short, specific and honest. The preview text is the line that follows it in most inboxes, so treat it as a second subject rather than a summary.

You can write in the rich editor, paste Markdown, or send a complete HTML email through the API. The editor produces mobile-friendly HTML either way.

Slash commands

Type / on an empty line to insert a heading, an image, a button, a divider or a box. Images can be uploaded to your library and reused across issues.

Links open in the same tab by default. Use a button when the action matters more than the prose.

Preview before you send

The preview shows the issue on desktop and on a phone. It also warns you when an email is large enough for Gmail to clip it, or when the unsubscribe link is missing.

Send a test to yourself or a teammate before the real send. Test emails count toward your monthly allowance, just like a normal send.
